Officials move to restore electricity following transmission tower collapse in Adamawa

Authorities and electricity distribution officials have confirmed that restoration works are ongoing following the collapse of a transmission tower on the 33kV Jambutu Feeder, an incident that has plunged parts of Yola North and adjoining communities into a power outage.

In a statement issued on Friday by the management overseeing the electricity network, it was disclosed that technical teams, in collaboration with the contractor handling reconstruction, have completed a detailed assessment of the damaged infrastructure.

According to the statement, reconstruction efforts have since commenced in full force, with the objective of restoring electricity supply to affected communities in the shortest possible time.

The disruption has affected several locations, including Modibbo Adama University, Girei, Hayin Gada, the Federal Housing Estate, as well as other adjoining communities currently experiencing an extended power outage as a result of the incident.

The affected facility, the 33kV Jambutu Feeder, is a key component of the local electricity distribution network, serving residential areas, educational institutions, and commercial centres across the region.

Management expressed regret over the inconvenience caused and appealed for patience from residents, assuring that efforts are being intensified to fast-track restoration and ensure that normal electricity supply is reinstated without further delay.

Officials also urged residents to remain vigilant and support the protection of electricity infrastructure, warning that vandalism and unauthorised interference continue to pose significant challenges to the stability of power supply in the area.

“We appeal for continued understanding and cooperation as we work to restore normal service,” the statement read, adding that the public will receive regular updates as reconstruction progresses.

The restoration team further assured that work will continue uninterrupted until full power supply is fully restored across all affected communities on the feeder line.
